Neck Lift in Dallas, TX | Dr. Yash Plastic Surgery

A neck lift is a set of surgical procedures to restore a younger, more attractive appearance to the neck. Sagging, excess neck skin is removed in a procedure known as cervicoplasty. When necessary, loose or banded neck muscles are tightened and smoothed in a procedure known as platysmaplasty. A neck lift procedure can also include the removal of excess fat from the neck. Neck lifts can eliminate the sagging skin under the chin also known as a “turkey neck” or “turkey wattle.”

Dr. Yash Avashia has specialized training and extensive experience in performing cosmetic and reconstructive facial surgery. What Is a Neck Lift?

Neck lift procedures aim to deliver a youthful, attractive look to the neck. A cervicoplasty is a procedure to remove sagging, excess skin. Platysmaplasty addresses loose or banded neck muscles by tightening and smoothing them. Neck lifts can also remove excess fat and improve the appearance of double chins and sagging skin under the chin, colloquially known as a “turkey neck” or “turkey wattle.”

The changes made in a neck lift can help make you look younger and thinner. Often, a neck lift and facelift are performed together. Either or both can be combined with a brow lift or eyelid surgery for more comprehensive facial rejuvenation.

How Can a Neck Lift Improve My Appearance?

A neck lift procedure addresses loose or sagging skin, weakened muscles, and fat deposits on the neck and under the chin. The result is a smoother, slender, and younger-looking neck.

A neck lift can:

  • Eliminate loose neck skin on the neck and under the chin, such as a turkey neck
  • Remove and flatten a double chin
  • Slim and tighten a flabby-looking neck
  • Address horizontal bands

To get an idea of the changes a neck lift can make, put your fingers just below your jawline and push the skin up toward your cheeks. If the shift makes your chin and neck look younger and slimmer, you may benefit from a neck lift.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Neck Lift?

If you’re bothered by the signs of aging on your neck and find that non-invasive treatments aren’t enough to correct the problem, a neck lift may deliver the solution you want. The best candidates are in good health, don’t smoke, and have realistic expectations for the improvements the procedures can make.

What Can I Expect Before, During, and After My Dallas, TX Neck Lift?

Before Neck Lift

Dr. Yash is a partner at the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute and will perform your procedure in the Institute’s state-of-the-art surgery center. The Institute is the top facility for aesthetic surgery in Dallas and among the best in the country. On surgery day, you will check in and meet with Dr. Yash and your anesthesia provider.

You will be escorted to the operating room by a nurse and positioned comfortably on the operating table before you slowly fall asleep with general anesthesia. Dr. Yash works with some of the best anesthesia providers in Dallas, who are highly skilled in administering anesthesia and ensuring your experience is as smooth as possible.

During Neck Lift

Neck lifts are highly customizable procedures. The specific approach for your surgery will be determined by the signs of aging to be corrected and your goals for the procedure as determined during your consultation. In a neck lift procedure, Dr. Yash may remove excess fat and skin, tighten the platysma muscle, and reposition the remaining tissues for a youthful-looking appearance. Incisions are typically made behind the ears and under the chin, which allow Dr. Yash to remove excess skin and tighten the underlying muscles.

After Neck Lift

A neck lift is performed as an inpatient procedure. Once alert after your anesthesia, you will be taken to the Cloister, the overnight facility adjacent to our surgery center. Dr. Yash will see you here once in the evening and again the following morning. The Cloister has a 24-hour nurse to provide care and ensure you are recovering well. Before returning home the next day, your face and hair will be washed in the Cloister’s salon. Dr. Yash will provide you with a full list of post-operative instructions and will be available if you have any immediate questions or issues.

What Can I Expect in Neck Lift Recovery?

Recovery will vary depending on the extent of your procedure. Most patients require about a week of rest and light activity at home after neck lift surgery. In the first two weeks, you may experience some redness, bruising, and swelling in the area of the surgery. You can reduce these side effects by elevating your head and applying ice. You may also experience numbness and tenderness in the area, and it’s common to feel tightness as the skin adjusts to its new position. Dr. Yash will prescribe pain medication, as needed, to ease any discomfort in the days just after surgery.

Dr. Yash will schedule a follow-up visit a week after your surgery to remove sutures and assess your progress. He and his staff will be available at any time to answer your questions during recovery.

Dr. Yash will recommend gradually resuming activity and exercise about a week after surgery. Your neck will be fully healed in about a month. At that point, you’ll see the full results of the surgery and be able to engage in more strenuous exercise. The results will continue to improve over the following months. The results will continue to improve over the following months, effectively delivering a more youthful, attractive, and energetic appearance that strengthens your self-esteem and boosts your confidence.
